Aweber autoresponder service is one of the most established email marketing autoresponder companies available. They have a strong expertise in email deliverability. Getting emails delivered these days is no easy task especially when you are managing over 80,000 autoresponder accounts which collectively send out millions of emails.

I set up an account with Aweber Communications a little over 1 year ago. I soon developed a double opt in list of over 30,000 members. I have experience with email marketing and autoresponders so I knew how important it was to make sure my lists are confirmed opt in. This simply means that when somebody subscribes to one of my lists from a form on my website they are then sent a confirmation email. There is a confirmation link in this email which the recipient must click in order to join my autoresponder series. If they do not confirm they receive no further emails. This process makes it impossible for somebody to register using somebody else's email address.

I also knew that even though autoresponder companies say that you can import subscribers from other system that they really do not like this since this usually causes elevated complaint levels. So I never used the import function with Aweber even once. So from day one the lists were all confirmed opt in and they all subscribed specifically by registering from forms on my various websites. No scripts were used, no co registration (more on this later).

So subscribers just went to my website, registered for my newsletter, received the confirmation email, clicked the link and subscribed. I never imported any prospects into the system. All my subscribers joined using this method. I thought I was following the rules. I thought I was practicing safe email marketing. Apparently not.

While I was on vacation in Europe I tried to access my Aweber account. Rather than being logged into my account I saw the following message: "Sorry! The account you've tried to access is no longer active. Typically this is because you asked to close the account. If that's not the case, it may have been closed due to an overdue invoice, or a violation of our terms of service (such as attempting to send spam). "

My heart dropped. What had happened to my account. I had put their subscription forms on hundreds of my webpages. I was getting about 200 subscribers everyday to my various lists. I had a real bad feeling about this one. I knew that they had cancelled my account. Aweber is not known for trying to work with it's customers. Once you are nuked you are nuked. Somehow I had transgressed some TOS and they had deleted my account with all 30,000 subscribers.

I checked my email account and saw their email. It turns out that they deleted my account without any warning because I simply had mentioned the topic of co-registration marketing. Aweber said they did not "believe" in co-registration marketing almost as if email marketing was some sort of religion with a belief system. They did not cancel my account because I tried to use co-registration leads with Aweber in any way. They just did not like the fact that I talked about this form of marketing in an email.
