Description

Studying their own capabilities, scientists presented at the conference an algorithm that determines when people lose sight of something due to lack of attention. Participants were asked to focus on the task - for example, to identify emotions on computer-generated faces - while monitoring their brain activity in parallel. The algorithm eventually learned to identify the patterns of neural activity associated with distraction. When scientists stimulated the brains of volunteers in the region responsible for decision-making, their effectiveness in solving problems has improved noticeably. The structures of the neuronal activity of the "scattered brain" also disappeared. Currently, the team is working on the automation of the process, so that the algorithm directly causes stimulation during attention deficit. The brain inside out If these DARPA projects are implemented, our methods of treating mental illnesses will radically change.
