Description

SMA and premotor regions of the cortex send information to the CIA M1, as well as the brain stem of the motor regions. Neurons from M1, SMA and premotor cortex come to the fibers of the corticospinal tract. The corticospinal tract is the only direct route from the cerebral cortex to the spine and consists of more than a million fibers. These fibers descend through the vertebral trunk, where most of them pass to the opposite side of the body. After crossing, the fibers continue to descend along it, ending at the corresponding spinal cord levels. The corticospinal tract is the main channel for managing the body's voluntary movements. There are other motor canals that originate from subcortical groups of neurons (nuclei) . They control posture and balance, rough movements of the near muscles, and also coordinate the head, neck and eye movement in response to visual observations. The spinal cord consists of white and gray matter. White matter consists of nerve fibers passing through the spine.
