It would be incredibly difficult to determine which exercises work and which ones do not, and to what extent. Effective sharpening of almost any skill requires visual feedback, and the same can be said about brain training. What would be the ultimate learning potential with real-time fMRI, if you had easy access to it and you could be trained weekly or even daily to control your brain? If several 10-minute sessions yield statistically significant results, what can 10,000 hours of practice do? There is not yet a true way to verify, but "mental super abilities" can be fully attainable. Learning with neurofeedback could provide the shortest path to abilities that, for example, monks demonstrate that can completely block painful pain and change physiology to dry a towel on their backs in a cold room. So, although the final potential of this technology is yet to be seen, it is not unreasonable to believe that the amazing mental abilities of experienced meditators who need years to develop them can be one day received in a short time. The blood-brain barrier is an extremely important structure of the brain, which saves our lives every day.
