In 1998, the Argentine Charly García made a version together with Javier Calamaro to exalt "criolla liveliness" in his song Sweet Home Buenos Aires . In 1980, together with David Lebón , he composed Encuentro con el diablo , using the musical base of Sweet Home Alabama and adding a bridge in its chorus, which also appears in Sweet Home Buenos Aires . It is also one of the songs from the movies Forrest Gump , 8 Mile , The Girl Next Door and Con Air . In the latter, one of the characters says in mid-flight "Define irony : a bunch of idiots dancing on a plane to a song made famous by a dead band on a plane that crashed" (certainly not the whole band died, but Ronnie did. Van Zant , Steve Gaines and Cassie Gaines ). Likewise, it appears in the horror film The Texas Chainsaw , when young people go to a concert by said band.
