Description

Arvind Kejriwal's rise to political prominence and his electoral victories can be attributed to several factors:

  1. Anti-Corruption Movement: Arvind Kejriwal gained national attention as an anti-corruption activist during the 2011–2012 India Against Corruption movement, led by social activist Anna Hazare. The movement called for the enactment of a strong anti-corruption law known as the Jan Lokpal Bill. Kejriwal's role in this movement helped him gain widespread public support and recognition as a crusader against corruption.

  2. Formation of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP): Following the India Against Corruption movement, Arvind Kejriwal and several other activists, including Manish Sisodia and Prashant Bhushan, formed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in November 2012. The AAP positioned itself as a party that aimed to bring clean and accountable governance to India, focusing on issues such as corruption, transparency, and accountability.

  3. Delhi Assembly Elections 2013: In the Delhi Assembly elections held in December 2013, the AAP made a remarkable electoral debut. Arvind Kejriwal contested from the New Delhi constituency against incumbent Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and won by a significant margin. The AAP emerged as the second-largest party, winning 28 out of 70 seats, and formed a minority government with outside support from the Indian National Congress.

  4. Populist Policies and Governance: During his brief tenure as Chief Minister of Delhi in 2013-2014, Arvind Kejriwal implemented several populist policies, including providing subsidized electricity and water, improving government schools and healthcare facilities, and launching anti-corruption helplines. These policies resonated with the electorate and contributed to the AAP's popularity among the common people.
