Calling the appointments as “null and void”, the division bench of Justice Debangsu Basak and Justice Md Shabbar Rashidi ruled that the board must conduct a fresh recruitment process. The order meant the cancellation of 25,753 jobs.
Additionally, the court mandated that individuals who were appointed must repay their salary within four weeks. Over 23 lakh candidates had appeared for the 2016 State-Level Selection Test SLST for 24,640 vacant posts.
The bench also directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct further investigation into the appointment process and submit a report within three months.
According to the Anandabazaar Partrika, the court also directed authorities to upload all answer sheets of the SSC recruitment test on their website in order to ensure transparency.
The ruling is seen as an embarrassment for the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in the election season.
