Description

Returning to India in 1915, Gandhi emerged as a leader in the Indian National Congress, advocating for Indian self-rule and independence from British colonial rule. He led numerous nonviolent campaigns and protests, including the Salt March in 1930, where he and his followers marched 240 miles to protest the British salt monopoly, and the Quit India Movement in 1942, demanding an end to British rule.

Gandhi's commitment to nonviolence, simplicity, and truth inspired millions of people around the world. He emphasized the importance of communal harmony, religious tolerance, and social equality. His principles of nonviolent resistance influenced other civil rights leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela.

Despite facing numerous challenges, including imprisonment and personal attacks, Gandhi remained steadfast in his commitment to peace and justice. He worked tirelessly towards his vision of a free and united India.

Tragically, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948, by Nathuram Godse, a Hindu nationalist who opposed Gandhi's stance on communal harmony. However, his legacy continues to inspire movements for peace, freedom, and social justice worldwide, making him one of the most revered figures in modern history.
