Six children died and over 20 others were injured after a schoolbus overturned in Haryana's Narnaul on Thursday morning. The school was functioning despite a holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr, officials said.
The bus which belonged to GL Public School overturned near Unhani village of Kanina.
According to the district administration, 12 injured students were moved to a local hospital. Two others have been moved to a Rohtak hospital in critical condition.
The District Education Officer said that after initial investigation, it appears that the driver lost control of the bus and rammed it into a tree. He might have been drunk, he added.
We have are investigating the drunk driving claims and have conducted a medical test on the driver. The bus's documents were not renewed," senior police officer Arsh Verma told NDTV. Official documents show that the bus's fitness certificate had expired six years ago in 2018.
Police are now questioning the school authorities over the accident.
Post a commentThe parents of one of the students also suffered injuries after their bike crashed while they were on the way to the accident site. While the student's mother's broke her leg, her sister died in the crash.
