As many as 18 Maoists were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district, the Border Security Force said on Tuesday.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the BSF in conjunction with the District Reserve Guard (DRG) launched a coordinated strike in Binagunda area under the jurisdiction of Chotebetiya police station in Kanker.
During the course of the operation, the BSF team came under heavy fire from CPI Maoist insurgents, according to the central police force.
The BSF troops promptly retaliated against the attackers, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire.

NEW DELHI: INS Talwar seized 940 kg of drugs in the Arabian Sea on April 13, the Indian Navy’s first interdiction of illicit narcotics as a member of the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), a 42-nation naval partnership, the CMF said in a statement on Tuesday.
