Description

Starting from December, we have begun automatically implementing end-to-end encryption for personal messaging through Messenger. Here’s what you need to know about this extra security and protection layer on your messages, and what it means for your Messenger experience. End-to-end encryption Introduction What is the concept of end-to-end encryption? End-to-end encryption is a beneficial security tool that ensures no one can access your messages except you. It is a layer of security for your conversations and communication with loved ones, making sure that all text and voice information leaves your device and arrives at the recipients unaltered. Hence, no one else can read or listen to what is being transmitted or said, including Meta. So whether you are sharing family photos or personal finances, end-to-end encryption ensures all your information is sent securely and privately. How does this impact my experience in Messenger? Starting immediately, all your private messages sent through one-on-one chats on Messenger will be automatically encrypted end-to-end. In the rollout phase, chats that transition to this setting will display a message stating “messages and calls protected with end-to-end encryption.” As with many other security features, once your chats are automatically end-to-end encrypted, they always will be as an added measure of protection for your conversations’ content.
